After the accidental death of his wife, Miranda, Benjamin Vlahos, an American theoretical physicist relocates to a remote resort town in Northern Queensland to work on a set of equations in an attempt to prove that time travel to the past is possible. As he struggles with the math, a deadly cyclone approaches, dragging with it ghosts from an unresolved past.

The Nostalgia of Time Travel ~
Well now, aside from the theoretical and quantum physics running around in the professors mind, he is also sentimental. An unusual combination (in my experience). There are few experiences as life-changing as the loss of a beloved, whether that loss is of a spouse, parent, child, or dear friend.
What I was caught up in were the every day thoughts we often forget a brilliant man might have ~ he is not all numbers and calculus. He has a terrible burden of [unfounded] guilt; believing he deserves to be alone. Being alone brings often meandering, sometimes acutely focused thought. Sometimes being alone makes one think too much. Period.
I am not an 'expert' reviewer. The words either come or they don't. I enjoyed this story (novella) tremendously. It was also 'familiar' in ways only a well told story can be. We relate. We can't help it. We ache for him. We recognize him.
(PS: I also have a penchant for a good waffle)

The Nostalgia of Time Travel edition by Stavros Halvatzis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

From the comforts of life, to the questions that plague our minds from the moment we wake up till the moment we fall asleep, this book really resonated with me from start to finish. I was able to relate to every situation question and memory and found myself giggling at the fond memories and sympathizing with the slightly darker ones which plagued the narrator as he searches for the ultimate answer to life. I love this book and found the visual detail to be quite vivid and exciting towards the climax and heart felt and warm in the calm before the storm. Five stars. What a great read.
The Nostalgia of Time Travel has an interesting take on the idea of time and its effects on the human psyche. The novel starts with a hint towards a science-fiction theme regarding time travel as stated in the title, however this is not quite the case. A sensitive, clever alternative was used, exploring the inner most desires and memories of a complex but genuine main character. Ideas regarding the perception of time and the idea of nostalgia as a whole is challenged, and is guaranteed to make the reader think about what was said. I found myself pausing often, contemplating and marveling at the ideas jumping out at me. The plot was also interesting with believable and colorful characters. Highly recommended.
Having read Halvatis's The land below my expectations for The Nostalgia of Time Travel was immediately set. By the first chapter I was hooked. Despite my personal taste ( I hate books written in the first person) I found my self reading the story a second time. I found the visual description and use of visual metaphor gripping and engaging. After reading the first chapter I got a craving for golden waffles and Brazilian coffee. The fine details ( Wind blowing into bicycles as if the wind is trying to send a message via Morse code) is what kept me interested.

Other wonderful use of metaphor is how Benjamin wishes how was a man in a watch who can make time stay still.

For fine detail and visual description Halvatis deserves praise and all good reviews by future readers.

The character of Benjamin reminds me of a short animated film of a old man who can't let go of his past. The best stories begin with tragedy that takes the story forward. However in this case it literately we go backwards.I feel that it is hard to find Benjamin likable just because of how sorry he feels for himself.

However I believe that is where this unconventional story is aimed at older readers. It's a unexplained revelation that comes with age and life experiences that a 20 something year old reader can't ever grasps appose to a 40 something year old that has experienced lose. It's this revaluation that makes this book's story so much richer. This story is not open to debate in high schools rather it's a interesting read to those who have been schooled by life.

I would highly recommend The Nostalgia of Time Travel to anyone how wants to read a well constructed story by a true master of his craft.

If I had to rank this story from 0 ( very bad) to 10 ( very good) , I would give it a 7. If you are interested in reading a 10/10 Halvatis's The Land Below the first of a highly awaited trilogy. In addition look out for Halvatis next book titled the Black pyramid ( What a great title!)

I am looking forward to Stavros Halvatzis next story ( hopefully in the third person)
A moving and thought-provoking story about how we experience our memories and feelings of guilt in the ambiguities of time-space relationships. But any science you may need to know is simply explained within the story. An American physicist withdraws to a beach resort in Australia, obsessed with a mission to prove that time past cannot be revisited ... unless, perhaps, we inhabit one of other parallel universes. A conundrum that becomes emotionally charged as we gradually learn of his personal tragedy. Revelation comes not from his beloved mathematics but from his inner consciousness – or, was it from the consciousness of others past? There are no complicated plotting devices and sub-plots, yet the story’s seeming simplicity is deceptive. Although an engrossing and entertaining tale well told, this novella offers deeper levels to be plumbed.
A quick read with a tender and genuine heart. Filled with compelling ideas about physics and the possibility of time travel to the past, this story is a delightful example of how redemptive human responses to love, loss, agony, and guilt can create a sense of bittersweet nostalgia. I have been enjoying the writing of Halvatzis for some time and have read all of his other books. When I saw that this story had been published, I snatched it up without a second thought. As expected, I found it to be a quick read with a genuine heart. But that is not unusual for Halvatzis. With each work he finishes and offers to the public, I am pleased to find that he continues to pursue an increasing depth of understanding about the best of the human spirit and how to successfully communicate it.
